WITH WOMEN WE RUN: CREATING SAFE SPACES FOR EVERYONE
In 2022, adidas Runners successfully launched the WITH WOMEN WE RUN initiative to demonstrate our commitment to collectively end harassment and any form of gender-based violence and vulnerable groups, making running spaces safer for all.
The initiative was divided into three phases. Our first phase, launched in March 2022, focused on educating AR communities, including captains and coaches, about harassment, gender inequality and how to create a safe running culture.
In April we launched phase 2, highlighting the importance of allyship and standing alongside each other to promote safety and well-being.
As part of the third phase, we pledged our commitment to end gender-based violence in sport. By collaborating with our AR communities to ensure that each member felt seen, heard and respected, creating a lasting change in our community.
COLLABORATED WITH MEANINGFUL INITIATIVES
Later in the year, we partnered with Tirop’s’ Angels – a foundation started in honour of elite athlete and 10km world record holder, Agnes Tirop – to stand in unity against gender-based violence in sport.
In November, we launched the Run Like an Angel challenge and saw Agnes’ close friend and fellow athlete, Violah Cheptoo Lagat, run the TCS NYC Marathon in honour of her.
Violah, Jessie Zapo and Ameerah Omar (AR NYC) also engaged in a live talk about the incredible work Tirop’s Angel’s is doing to prevent violence by empowering young girls and women on the ground.
A SERIES OF HISTORIC FIRSTS
We introduced AR Jeddah Captain Muna and AR Riyadh Captain Sarah who have been leading their communities with determination, tenacity, and passion.
Muna and Sarah are true pioneers in guiding their members through their first ever women-only training programs in the region and first ever women-only 5km race in Saudi Arabia’s history.
Furthermore, AR Warsaw Captain Pawel is also committed to implementing WWWR in his community by raising awareness and putting a spotlight on male allyship to create change through a series of light runs and speaker series.
To make running a safe place for all and highlight the importance of togetherness, these changemakers have integrated the WITH WOMEN WE RUN initiative into the heart of their communities through group runs, allyship workshops and race training.

OUR ONGOING COMMITMENT
adidas Runners has crafted a commitment to underscore the importance of a safe and supportive space for a global community to address women’s safety in running.
Captains and coaches will read out a version of the commitment before every community run to reinforce the pledge and values and this will then be repeated by each runner.
